From Street Films: Groningen is the largest city in the north of the Netherlands. It has
been called the "World Cycling City", since 57% of journeys within the
city are made by bicycle. In Groningen, even the large multi-lane roads
have been civilized for cyclists. On this main ring road around
Groningen there is signage to indicate that at this intersection
cyclists get their own green phase at the light. This means that when
the light is green cyclists can travel in any direction across the
junction, including diagonally. Traffic Engineer Hillie Talens explains
how it works in this first short video that we bring to you to kick off
our series with the Bikes Belong Delegation to the Netherlands.
