CrankMyChain! might even have something in the line-up, but either way I'm sure the festival of bicycle pornography will blow your mind and perhaps other things.

What is Bike Porn? It's not just bikes on bikes. I'll say that. Are you offended by graphic sexual images and suggestion? Don't go. It's all very sex positive (at least it was last year) but some flicks even challenged my sensibilities. I occasionally like to have my sensibilities challenged.

If you go, be sure to CrankMyChain!

And then hold onto your shorts or, better yet, take them off - because at 11:59PM Saturday the 14th, Portland goes on the World Naked Bike Ride.
It all starts the the Pedalpalooza Kick Off Dance Party (Track 7, NW 30th Ave and Industrial St) - Watch out for train tracks they love to throw cyclists.

Derailed - A Short Movie

Derailed from Chris Cosler on Vimeo.

iPhone Version

This is my favorite selection from this years Filmed by Bike festival. The message delivered in this short darma by Oliver Ogden, Jared Staber, Chris Cosler is poignant and well delivered, which is something much more difficult to do than the other types of movies shown at Filmed by Bike (mine included).

Watch the movie and then let's discuss the plot and theme. For me it hits close to home to a decision I made in 2003 that helped put my life on track.

No Country for Old Men - No Earthday for Motorcars

OK, so I look like the bad guy from No Country for Old Men.

But the Cohen bros. and Javier Bardem nicked the look from me.

And if you don't ride your bike on Earth Day then my 1958 quarter dollar and I might just have to pay you a visit.

Don't forget, Mother Nature bats last and Earth day is April, 22nd.

"On Time" Preview

Through the streets and boroughs of New York, Jimmy, a bicycle messenger from the Albatross Courier Company is out to deliver a package "on time". Braving the perilous city streets there's nothing Jimmy can't handle...or is there? This 1987 comedy classic short shown worldwide marked the debut of Director/Screenwriter Ari Taub and captured the spirit of low-budget filmmaking in New York City.

By the way, that's not Rev Phil playing the messenger role. It's just supposed to look like him.

Be Your Own Pet - Biker Music Video

NASHVILLE, TN - This video and it's lyrics are a case in point. A warning, if you will, that our youth is completely out of control and that the gateway to all this violence and debauchery is a bicycle.

Bicycle, Bicycle, You are My Bicycle
by Be Your Own Pet

We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby

We will come to your town
Burn your house down
Turn the sky brown
All because, all because, all because

We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby

We'll change the eye colour
Of every lady
We're fast, we're fast
We're fast we're having a blast
All because

We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby

Change the colour of your make up
All the sleepyheads won't wake up
All because all because all because
Because because...

No gears, no brakes
No real, no fake
(repeat x4)

Have fun, and be safe with it
Just kidding, mosh me up
We ride bikes, cars are for idiots
All because, all because

We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby
We're on two wheels baby

VeloCity 2009 Promo Video

Click To Play

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM plays host to the 2009 VeloCity bicycle conference. Here is their great promo video which they showed at the recent 2007 VeloCity in Munich, Germany.

Evan from the Bicycle Transportation alliance turned my onto this video and here is what he had to say at the BTA blog.
It's up! The promotional video for VeloCity 2009 in Brussels, which I got to see at VeloCity 2007, has been posted to the web (view here).

The video just makes me happy. It includes so many pieces of bike culture — kids riding together, racers and elevator-users, bikes on transit, police on bikes, mechanics, and playful people. It's hard to imagine such a singularly joyful video being produced by the government here — kids riding on handlebars? BMXers riding down stairs? people without helmets?

My favorite part is the scene excerpted in the picture — a man pretends to ride the painted-on bicycle on the street. Hooray!

For those unfamiliar with Brussels, it's not a very bike-friendly place (I think 2% mode share), but they're working on it. They probably call themselves "The Capital of Bicycling" because they're where the EU is based. But Brussels travellers will recognize the elevator in the movie, and how nice it is for the lazy among us in getting up that hill.

Enjoy!

Vancouver, BC - Here's another featurette that played at Rev Phil's Bike Porn. It's from the same producer as You Never Bike Alone.

I really enjoyed the images (fixies, minis, talls, choppers, strippers, stunts) and music ("Yeah She Likes Kinky Things" by Lagos Disco Machine).

Project Pedal - A Vlog and Documentary

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA- Here is a promising video blog/documentary film project from Michael Ambs. It's tentatively titled 'Pedal'. The story, footage, and music so far are very captivating. It's certain to be very successful and inspiring.

This movie and bicycle trek will,
bookend with the Pacific and Atlantic oceans... anchored to a small group's cross country trip and focusing on the inspiring people that cross their path.

Each week a vlog will be posted that will share stories from these people met along the way - as well as the main cast and the occasional behind-the-scenes footage. In the end, the bi-product of these vlogs will be used for a feature length documentary.

The end-goal of this project, both in it's vlog and documentary form, is to share people's reasons and motivations behind their trip. Most importantly to share what makes or drives a person to leave everything behind and to understand what they each take away from this overwhelming and painful journey.

Episode Two - Logistics

Quoted from ProjectPedal.com

The large majority of questions "slash" concerns dealt with PEDAL's exact process, and in relation to this; the exact results. 1) Who are we following? 2) Who are we interviewing? 3) Are we driving, or also riding bicycles? 4) How long will this take?

Pure Sweet Hell "Cyclocross Film" (Three Minute Trailer)

PURE SWEET HELL tells the story of cyclocross, a sport that has emerged as bike racing's punk rock cousin. Told from an insider's perspective, the filmmakers traveled to 'cross competitions throughout North America, dug up vintage photos and film footage, and followed 'cross luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall, Barry Wicks and Rick Hunter. Shot entirely on Super 8 and supported by experimental rock music, PURE SWEET HELL surfaces both the strong community behind the solitary sport and the grace that arises amidst all of its grit.

More information about the film can be found at www.cyclocrossfilm.com . Purchasing info is available on the website.
