Rep. McHenry Blasts Bicycles

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Patrick McHenry argues that promoting bicycles to help solve our energy crisis is naive and ridiculous. To me, he ends up coming across as a foolish tool.

Thanks to Jonathan Maus of BikePortland.org for catching this story. Read more about it and a lively discussion at his blog.

Let your congressperson know how you feel about bicycles as part of our nation's energy plan.

Patrick McHenry is a Republican who serves the 10th district or North Carolina in the United States Congress.

One 19th century solution to this particular 21st century problem comes to mind: a muzzle for people whose mouths generate noise rather than reasoned arguments.

Unfortunately, I think this sort of shallow emotion-based soundbite “argument” is what typically passes for debate these days in our country.

Perhaps he should consider Steve Jobs’ interesting analogy, that a computer is like a bicycle for the mind in how it increases our potential. Are there many people a better representation of the 21st Century than Jobs?
